It is a true honor to serve as the principal of C. C. Wells Elementary School. I am excited to join the Wells family and am grateful for the opportunity to serve our students, staff, and families. I am passionate about public education and believe every child deserves a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where they can thrive. As both an educator and a parent of two Chesterfield County Public Schools students, one in high school and one in middle school, I understand the importance of strong partnerships between schools and families.

Virginia has been my home since 2006, when I graduated from the University of Richmond. I later earned my master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Virginia Commonwealth University and completed my Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership in May 2026. I have been a public school educator for over 20 years and have served as an elementary classroom teacher in grades 2, 4, and 5, a K–5 mathematics coach, and an assistant principal at Providence Elementary. 

Throughout my career, I have focused on supporting students and educators through high-quality instruction, collaboration, and meaningful relationships. I have been fortunate to receive several professional honors, including being recognized as a Virginia Finalist for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching, Hanover County’s Innovator of the Year, a recipient of the R.E.B. Award for Teaching Excellence, and Henrico County Public Schools’ Teacher of the Year. While I am grateful for these recognitions, my greatest accomplishment is the opportunity to make a positive difference in the lives of children every day.

At Wells, I will continue to value strong partnerships with families, open communication, academic excellence, and the development of the whole child. I believe that when schools and families work together, students are empowered to reach their fullest potential. I look forward to getting to know our Wells Wildcats and their families and to learning, growing, and celebrating together as one Wells family!

I am Summer Lannan and I am thrilled to continue to serve as your Assistant Principal at C.C Wells Elementary.  

I began my education endeavors by attending Virginia Commonwealth University and receiving my Masters of Teaching with an undergraduate Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. I had the privilege of starting my teaching career at C.E Curtis Elementary as a third grade teacher.  After teaching at Curtis, I became a Math Specialist at Chalkley Elementary and then Bellwood Elementary.  While teaching and leading at Bellwood Elementary, I received my Post Master’s in Administration and Supervision from Virginia Commonwealth University.  

Once completing my Administration degree, I worked at Marguerite Christian Elementary as an Assistant Principal for four years before moving to Wells Elementary.  I am passionate about helping all students be successful both academically and socially at Wells.  

Personally, I enjoy reading when I have time and spending time with my family. I live with my husband, daughter and rescue dog.  My daughter is a junior at Cosby High School this year.  We all enjoy watching movies together, when we have time, and going out to dinners together. 

I believe open and honest communication is the key to a successful school year.
